The traditional award ceremony at the International Biennale of Architecture BA09 in its twelfth edition was held on Saturday 10th, October, at the Hydro Hall at the Recoleta Cultural Center {Centro Cultural Recoleta}. The awards were presented by members of the Cayc Committee to the Argentine and foreign architects who exhibited their recent work from October 3rd to 12th at the Recoleta Cultural Center. The winners of the contests organized by CAYC were honored as well. Awards to Successful Achievements were presented in the first place. The International Achievement Award was given to the architect Hans Hollein from Austria, while the Latinamerican Achievement Award was given to the architect Laureano Forero from Colombia. The Argentine Achievement Award was awarded to GGMPU Arquitectos Firm, from Córdoba. Afterwards, the International Work Award was presented, which was shared between architects Alberto Campo Baeza from Spain, the Benetton School, Carlos Zapata from the U.S., Cavanaugh Firm from Chicago, Snohetta Firm from Norway, and the Library of Alexandria. Consuelo Ciscar from Spain received the Award to an Urban Proposal for her Art and Planning Project for the City of Valencia. The Young Generation Award was given to the architect Angelo Bucci from Brazil in the International category, and to KLM Firm (Kelly, Lestard, Maldonado), within the National Category. With regard to the awards to the exhibitions of the Twelfth Buenos Aires International Biennale, the best Argentine multimedia presentation was for Estudio Grimberg/Duek/Iglesias, which included the production of Luis Campos. The best International multimedia presentation was for Marcelo Joulia from France. The best collective exhibition was “Current Russian Architecture” of the Russian Architects Society. The award for the Best Design Exhibition was for “Chairs' Collection”, organized by the Architect Supplement of Clarin newspaper. CICA Awards The International Committee of Architectural Critics -CICA- also had their place at the awards through CICA Awards. The first prize in the category Art & Sculpture was for Clorindo Testa with his work Cliptodonte. The second and third award followed -Martín Blasco for the Monument to the Unknown Political Prisoner, and Pablo Dompé for Katuri. The CICA International Architecture Award was for Jarmund/Vigsnaesi Firm, from Norway, for a school in Oslo. The Gold Medal was for BMV Architects Firm, from Switzerland, for their work Floating Bridge in Geneva, and the Silver Medal was for Alberto Campo Baeza, for the Memorial Museum, from Granada. The First Prize for Argentine Architecture was awarded to Hampton/Rivoira Firm, for the Voliere Building. The Golden Medal was awarded to Adamo/Faiden Firm, and the Silver Medal was awarded to the Rosarian architect Diego Arraigada and Johnson-Marklee Firm.
Cayc Awards With regard to the awards for the contests organized by the Art and Communication Center {Centro de Arte y Comunicación, CAYC} within the frame of the BA09 Biennial, the winners were the following: “Best Photography in Architecture” Nikon / CayC Award In Black and White Category, the award was for Natalia David Cano; the second place was for Ricardo Martiniuk, and there was a mention for Ines Crusellas. In the Color category the winner was Patricia Ackerman; the second place was for Barbara Crivos, and there was a mention for Alejandro Guilminelli. “Draft Design of a Rural School” CEDU, CAYC and PR&DB Award The first award was for Ezequiel Muñoz and Adrián Olivero. The Second Prize was for the trio of Natalia Bertoldo, Mariano Lo Celso and Javier Martino, and the Tirad Prize was for Yanina Zylberman, Cecilia Cambeses, Bárbara Lantschner and associates. Ctibor/Cayc Award “Architecture and the Brick” The First Prize was awarded to Urgell Penedo Urgell Firm, architects José Antonio Urgell, Augusto Penedo, Juan Martín Urgell and Associates, for the building of Universidad Católica Argentina in Puerto Madero. The Second Prize was for BAK Firm, architects María Victoria Besonías, Guillermo de Almeida and Luciano Kruk. The Gold Medal was awarded to CF Arquitectos Firm, architects Sergio Castiglione and Jorge Finkelstein, and the Cayc Silver Medal was awarded to architects Ignacio Montaldo and Eugenio Ottolenghi. There was also a Special Jury Mention to B4fs Arquitectos Firm, architects Daniel Becker and Claudio Ferrari. Interieur Forma/Cayc Award “The Director’s Office” The winner was architect Hugo Epstein’s Firm. Draft Contest “Bank of the City of Luján” There was a shared First Prize between architect Clarisa María Salvo and Bruno Bianchi, Damián Bojko, Nelson Etcheverry, Juan Fabri and Guillermo Klentak’s Firm. The Golden Medal was awarded to María Lourdes Ledesma, Martín Otero, Mónica López, Nicolás Blanco and Verónica Rodríguez’s Firm, and the Silver Medal was awarded to architects María Laura Zeman and María Alejandra Coletti. Abercom/Cayc Contest “Doors to the Design of a Single Family Dwelling” AEP Firm was the winner, with architects Alejandro Aramouni, Sebastián Engelhard and Federico Paz. The Second Prize was awarded to architects Paula Mariñasky and Camilo Policastro, and the First Mention was awarded to Grimberg-Duek-Iglesias’s Firm. The Second Mention was awarded to Andrés Remy, and the Third Mention was awarded to Federico Craig, Juan Moujan, Ana Redkwa and Juan Pedro Filpe. Colorín/Cayc Award “Color in Architecture” The Prize was awarded to architects Guillermo Brunzini and Spilimbergo.
